Thoughtful Branches...A CASE Study

I'm back with another card share!  And this time, I don't have one card to share...I actually have two!  What do you think of them apples?!

Let's get to the fun!  In case you didn't hear the GREAT news, Stampin' Up! is releasing a new stamp set and coordinating dies on August 2-31, while supplies last, called Thoughtful Branches.  And as much as you don't have to have both to make incredible cards, gifts, and home decor projects, I don't know how you would live without them!  They work so well together.

Anyway, we demonstrators are able to buy the bundle during the month of July, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it!  To me, it's Sheltering Tree meets Lovely as a Tree, only better...with dies!

Let me show you what I made using the Thoughtful Branches Bundle.

When I sat down to create, I did scan Pinterest for inspiration, but I wasn't looking to CASE (Copy and Share Everything) anyone's work.  But for my first card, I couldn't help but borrowed some elements of a card by Connie Collins of Constantly Stamping.  Connie is on the Stampin' Up! 2015-2016 Artisan Design Team, and I love her work!

I switched up my design by layering the flower onto some Watercolor Paper to break up the pattern in the background from the Moroccan Designer Series Paper.  I was going to be daring and watercolor it, but I chickened out and just stamped my sentiment.

I love the layered flower on top.  I simply die cut one in Crushed Curry and then stamped and die cut another in Delightful Dijon.  I wanted the bottom layer to be a bit brighter and really stand out.

For my second card, I channeled my inner Amy O'Neill of Amy's Paper Crafts.  Amy, too, is on the 2015-2016 Artisan Design Team, and I have followed her work since I started making cards in 2012. Her work is simply amazing!

The second I laid eyes on Amy's card, I knew what I wanted to make.  I turned my card on its side, and once again grabbed for the Watercolor Paper.  I created the sky with two drops of Soft Sky re-inker and lots of water using an Aqua Painter.  Then, I added the first layer of grass with two drops of Garden Green re-inker and lots of water and an Aqua Painter.

To get the grass just how I wanted it, I went back over it with two more drops of Garden Green re-inker and an Aqua Painter, and filled it in with color where needed.  {I'm no artist, so it took me about three tries before I kept my watercolor piece.}

I added the bird and leaves to brighten this card, even though it will likely be sent as a sympathy card.  I also wanted the top of my tree to stand out from the branches, similar to Amy's, so I used bits and pieces of Stampin' Dimensionals from around the edges to get pieces small enough to hide in the covered spots.  I've shown you how below.

I hope you like these cards, and I hope that the Thoughtful Branches Bundle is on your Wish List!  I am quite smitten with it!
