Celebrate a Creepy Crawly Halloween

Hi Everyone!  I hope that you had a nice weekend!  For today's share, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the Halloween Bash Stamp Set and Witches' Brew DSP to make this adorable Halloween Card.

Taking some inspiration from cards I saw on Pinterest, this is what I came up with.  Instead of using only traditional Halloween colors--black, orange, and white--I threw in some yellow with a strip of Daffodil Delight Cardstock.  It is a bit unexpected, but it adds a pop of color and is a great compliment.

I love the added touch of the dies I used--Deco Label Collection, Apothecary Accents, and the stars from the Circle Card Thinlits Dies.  I hope that you like this card.  If you do, please leave me a comment below.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a great start to your week and happy crafting!

Flashback Friday: Welcome Baby!

Happy Friday, All!  For today's Flashback Friday share, I made a card for the new little bundle of joy that my friend and his fiancée are expecting!  They don't want to know the sex of the baby--they want to be surprised!--so I tried to keep the colors neutral, but this card screams "boy."  Oh well!  I believe that the baby is a boy, so let's just say that my subconscious picked the colors.  LOL!

For this card, I used two retired sets that I just love--Bundled in Love and Bundle of Joy.  Both were featured in the Fall-Winter Collection 2007 Catalog (page 81).  Although these sets haven't gotten much use over the years, I always knew they would come in handy one day.

Stampin' Up!'s Bundle of Joy Stamp Set

When I set out to make this card, I knew that I wanted to use that adorable giraffe from the Bundle of Joy set, but I also needed the sentiments from the Bundled in Love set.  So I didn't fight it and ended up using both sets!

Once I figured out my design, which was inspired by my crafty friend Nicole Tugrul, I pulled out my Color Coach.  I decided on Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler and Daffodil Delight.

The Steps:

  1. Stamped the giraffe in Early Espresso Ink onto Daffodil Delight polka dot patterned paper and die cut it with the largest Apothecary Accents die.
  2. Stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso Ink on a piece of 1-1/4" x 5" piece of vellum (see my tip below for sufficiently drying the ink).  Note:  I should have cut it down to 1" W, but I didn't want to mess with it once I stamped it.
  3. Using the Alphabet Press Embossing Folder, embossed a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of Early Espresso Cardstock.
  4. Cut three (3) 1"x 5" strips from Cherry Cobbler Cardstock and cut them at varying lengths with the Hexagon Punch to give them banner ends.  (Please see my tip on how to do that here.)
  5. Adhered the embossed piece of paper to my Crumb Cake Cardstock card base, adhered the Cherry Cobbler banners, and then wrapped the vellum sentiment around the die cut piece of paper.
  6. Adhered the die cut piece with the sentiment to the card base with Mini Glue Dots.
  7. Because it was looking a little plain, I finished the card off with some stars cut from a chevron embossed piece of Night of Navy Cardstock.
  8. Added one small rhinestone to the third star to give it a little sparkle.

TIP:  If you have ever stamped on vellum before, then you know that the ink sits on top of the paper and does not dry quickly.  So to quicken the process, I used my Heat Tool, not once but TWICE.  I ran it over the ink once, then set it aside.  After about 5 minutes, I ran the Heat Tool over the vellum once more.

Although this method worked, I highly recommend either heat embossing with VersaMark Ink and using the embossing powder of your choice OR Staz-On Ink for the best results.

I also added a pocket on the inside since I am including a gift card (gift cards make life easy!), and stamped the card sentiment in Night of Navy Ink on a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Whisper White Cardstock.  Did you notice that notch I cut out of the pocket?  I did that using my Large Oval Punch.

Now, all I have to do is add a few words of my own and sign it.  Easy breezy, right?!  I LOVE how this card turned out, and I hope that you like it too!  Let me know what you think.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a great weekend and happy crafting!

Just Because

Hello & happy Thursday!  As you can see, I had some time to craft last week, so I went a little overboard and made LOTS of cards.  I promise that I will share something other than cards in the weeks to come, but for now, making cards is my happy place, so why fight the feeling, I say?!

For today's share, I made this adorable Just Because Card very similar to one I saw on Pinterest a couple of months ago by Ma-ni Scrap.  I LOVE her style...she dabbles heavily in the grunge look but always makes it so beautiful!

For my card, I used the same design, but I made it my own.  I pulled in as many colors as I could to give it a fresh, vibrant look by mixing Old Olive, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry and Smoky Gray.  But the pieces that I pulled from my color collection DSP Stacks made the most impact.  I just LOVE that Whisper White cardstock with Smoky Gray polka dots...that paper, my friends, makes me very happy!

This card is pretty darn special, if I say so myself.  Why, it would have to be to warrant not one but TWO gold brads from the Basics Glimmer Brads!  I hoard those puppies like they are worth their weight in gold, so it has to be a very special card or for a very special person for me to use those.  LOL!  Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Well, that's it for today, folks!  Thank you so much for stopping by!  Until next time, happy crafting!
