Flashback Friday: Old Buttons, New Use

Hi All!  Welcome back to Flashback Fridays!  You're probably looking at this card wondering what's so old about it?  Well, the buttons are the "flashback" today, but more importantly, it's who the card is for that's really special.

My fellow Luv 2 Stamp team member Wendy Cranford and her family are celebrating her grandfather Mack's 90th birthday this weekend, and she wants to surprise him with "sack full of birthday cards at his party."

So, she asked all of us team members to send her grandfather a handmade card, and she will present them to him at the big bash.  I couldn't resist the call to action, so I got right to work on his card.  It's such a blessing to have grandparents, especially at the wonderful age of 90!

For this card, I pulled out some Stampin' Up! buttons that I've never used and some of our more masculine paper--Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper--for this epic celebration.

The Steps:
  1. Cut the card base from Basic Gray Cardstock.
  2. Cut several pieces of Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper into strips and make double-ended banners.
  3. Adhere the banners with SNAIL, overlapping them a bit.
  4. Die cut the sentiment using our Deco Labels Framelits Dies and adhere it with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  5. Adhere the card base to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals to give it added pop.
  6. Cut a card insert in Very Vanilla Cardstock, stamp a sentiment, and adhere it with SNAIL.
  7. Adhere three buttons in coordinating colors to finish it off.

I tried to locate the name of the buttons and which publication they appeared in by searching through some of my old catalogs and mini catalogs, but it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.  Because I'm an embellishment hoarder and don't get around to using some of my stuff right away, all I can tell you is that they were purchased some time between 2006 to 2012.

If you recognize these buttons--they're big and small and multi-colored too--please let me know what catalog they appeared in and the page number, and I'll send you a gift as a thank you!

TIP:  The Bring on the Cake Stamp Set I used for this card has sentiments for both the outside AND inside of your handmade cards, making birthday cards a breeze.  If you don't already have it, you're going to want to add it to your wish list or to your shopping cart in my Online Store!

Here's to Mack and his magnificent milestone!  I can't wait to hear from Wendy what his reaction was to all of the cards he received.  Until next time, have a great weekend and happy crafting!
